Artificial Intelligence Authorship
Large language models (LLM), such as ChatGPT, currently do not meet our authorship criteria. In all cases, the responsibility for the final version of the text shall rest with the author.
AI-generated Imagery
The rapidly evolving field of AI-generated imagery has given rise to new legal issues concerning copyright and research integrity. We strictly comply with the current copyright legislation. As legal issues concerning AI-generated images and videos remain largely unresolved, the Neftyanaya Provintsiya (Oil Province) journal cannot permit their publication.
Exception:
Use of generative AI tools developed based on specific scientific datasets that can be attributed, verified and reviewed for accuracy is permitted subject to ethical practices, copyright law, and limits of use.
* All exceptions must be explicitly labeled as AI-generated content.
Given the expected rapid evolution of this domain in the near future, we will regularly review this policy and make changes in it, if necessary.
Use of Artificial Intelligence by Reviewers
Despite rapid advancements, generative AI tools have significant limitations: they may lack up-to-date knowledge and thus, generate meaningless, biased, or false information. Manuscripts may contain confidential or commercial information that must not be disclosed beyond the peer-review process. For these reasons, reviewers are requested to refrain from uploading manuscripts into generative AI tools. If any part of the manuscript evaluation process was supported by artificial intelligence tools in any manner, we request that reviewers explicitly disclose the usage of such tools in their peer review report.
