Renat Muslimov, one of the leading scientists and petroleum geologists, has made a great contribution to petroleum science with numerous outstanding research papers and unique experiments related to prospecting, exploration and development of oil and natural bitumen fields. He created a new classification of modern production stimulation techniques and substantiated screening criteria based on geological and physical parameters. Particular attention was devoted to applicability and performance of flow redistribution technologies to enhance oil recovery. Dozens of new oil fields were discovered in the Republic of Tatarstan under his direction and with his direct participation. For his remarkable achievements, he was awarded the diploma and lapel pin of Discoverer of Mineral Deposit. He developed a method for exploration of multi-zone oil fields and unlocked unconventional hydrocarbon prospecting areas in deep rocks of the crystalline basement.
Renat Muslimov initiated drilling of ultra-deep stratigraphic test wells to study the effects of the crystalline basement on accumulation and reformation of oil reservoirs in the sedimentary cover. He took part in the development of integrated, high-performance field development strategy for hard-to-recover reserves that received the State Award of the Republic of Tatarstan. He facilitated establishment of a number of independent oil companies, which produce annually as high as 6.6 million tons of oil from small unconventional fields of the Republic of Tatarstan. Renat Muslimov has created and for many years has been leading the Tatarstan school of petroleum geologists recognized not only in the former USSR but also worldwide.
Renat Muslimov is the Honored Geologist of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. He is the author of more than 700 scientific research papers, 200 inventions, 32 monographs, and holder of 25 patents for invention. Laureate of USSR State Prize (1982), three-time laureate of Gubkin Award (1977, 1982, 2012), laureate of the Prize of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry (1989, 1991); laureate of the State Award of the Republic of Tatarstan in Science and Engineering (1994); two-time laureate of Russian Federation Government Award (1996, 2006); Honored Geologist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialistic Republic (1989) and the Republic of Tatarstan (1995); Outstanding Worker of the Oil Industry (1983); Honored Oil Worker (1994); Honored Worker of Science in the Republic of Tatarstan (2004) and so on.
Currently, he supervises the implementation of the Federal Program “Replacement of Mineral and Raw Material Base and Improvement of Recovery of Mineral Resources in the Republic of Tatarstan", Republic-wide Program "Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex of the Republic of Tatarstan up to 2020" and provides scientific advice in unconventional areas of hydrocarbon prospecting.
